"Peter McNeely is an extremely knowledgeable and copious teacher who brings richness to his student's learning. His lessons are productive and interesting. Some might think that getting through set texts is incredibly dry but Mr.McNeely brings colour and depth. He did help me a lot for my GCSE and enabled me to achieve a very good grade. He also patiently assisted me through the first year of A-level. He’s a great teacher!”

"I could not recommend any tutor highly enough. Peter gave my daughter an excellent understanding of, and love for, Ancient History. She had never studied it before and yet in 2 years Peter taught her to think like a historian which is what we had asked in the first place. He met with her once a month, set essays and then discussed them with her which taught her to really think them through. With the disruption that Covid-19 caused for home educating and taking exams, Peter did everything that was needed to get her grade to the exam centre efficiently and took time to work out exactly what was needed to meet the requirements set. My daughter is going on to study History at A Level and Peter has given her an excellent grounding which will provide a sound basis for this. If we ever needed a Latin or Ancient History tutor again I would definitely go back to Peter."

"I started my Ancient History GCSE course having never studied the subject before, but Peter lead me to finish the course with confidence in both my understanding of the course material and my exam technique.  In just a couple of lessons with Peter, he taught me how to approach and write about ancient sources and gave me a much wider understanding of the contexts of the time period I was studying, which proved very useful when it came to practicing for the exam and in essay writing.
When Covid-19 struck and my exams were cancelled, Peter acted quickly and efficiently, working with my exam centre, to get everything in order so that I would still get a final grade. I could not recommend a better classics tutor!"

"Peter is an outstanding teacher. Knowledgeable and patient, he combines an infectious love for the classics with a canny eye on what's needed to enable students to perform at their very best in their exams. I can't recommend him highly enough."

"As a home ed parent I've always found Peter courteous and helpful, in setting up our class in the first place and throughout the first year of the course. My children, aged 13 & 14, say the classes are well-structured, and Peter is clear, helpful, gives good explanations and not least, is amusing- important this age."

"Fun, interesting, thorough and successful are four words that summarise my children's learning experience with Mr McNeely. He taught my daughter through to GCSE Latin, in which she achieved a very good grade. Our family would definitely recommend him as a tutor."
- Rebecca, parent, 2017

"I had studied Latin for some years before GCSE, but had next to no idea of the exam technique. In 90 minutes, Mr McNeely corrected my translation, gave me great study tips and showed me how to write the essays. I now have an A* with 94%! His lessons saved my exam -- I would recommend him to everyone!"

"It has been an absolute pleasure working with Peter over the course of my Latin A Level. I hadn’t been in education for a number of years and had only studied Latin for a year before starting the course but from the first lesson Peter put me at ease. He is both incredibly knowledge about the subject but also knows the ticks of the trade when it comes to what examiners look for. I was chuffed with my A and extremely grateful to Peter for helping me get it!"

"I'm a home educated student. I did Latin as a 4th A Level. I got an A.  I found Peter explained concepts clearly. This was especially helpful on the literature as I was less confident about it. His feedback on essay writing and structure was helpful and linked to exam technique. I really felt I learnt about the entire subject to support my exam knowledge."

"Mr McNeely has been our tutor for Greek and Latin GCSEs and Latin A Level during the last 2 years. Our children have enjoyed his lessons and he expects a high standard of accuracy. He imparts to the student an interest in the subject beyond the examination and is always willing to help if the student is stuck."

"Peter provided extra Classics Tuition for my daughter Emma shortly before her A2 exams. He has been friendly, helpful and supportive, and clearly knows what he is talking about! He quickly identified problem areas, and focused in on them with exam level essays. The weekly Skype sessions worked well, and he put Emma at ease straight away, enabling them to make real progress from the first session. Her essay marks at school were noticeably increased over just a few weeks. Peter always kept me informed about Emma's progress, and where we had got to with payment. In hindsight, we wish we had started these extra sessions some time before! Fingers crossed for the A-Level results, but whatever the result we can be confident that Emma was as well prepared as she could be."

"Having struggled with marks in the longer essay questions, my tutorials with Peter made a world of difference. The in-depth conversations we had, regarding the essay topics and sections of the epic I struggled with, then equipped me with the information I needed in order to write the essays Peter set for me. Slowly as I progressed we would spend less time meticulously planning the essays, so that writing them unseen in the exam wasn't too daunting! I started these tutorials during term time, and Peter was always sure to remind me to place academic work first before I tackled these essays. On weeks when I was busy, I was able to send the essays the same day as our tutorials and Peter would already be equipped with the feedback. Although it does sound a little daunting to have a tutorial with someone via Skype, Peter put me at ease straight away and I was never scared to ask for more help or email saying that I couldn’t do the essays (which Peter was lovely about)."

"When I began to outlearn what my parents could teach me with the learning programs available to us, Mr. McNeely instructed me in Latin and Greek for several years before I underwent my GCSEs and A-levels under his tuition. From a basis of simpler Latin, he improved my Latin and guided me onto the path of Greek. The level of skill I achieved under him in both languages is what I have been most proud of and gave me a very strong starting point when I started studying Classics for my undergraduate degree at the University of Durham. When I took my exams - Latin and Greek at GCSE, Latin, Greek, and Classical Civilizations at A-levels, - he helped me grapple with my first intense study of specific ancient texts, gave me useful feedback on essays, and familiarized me with the structure of and methods for taking exams. I am enormously grateful for the education he gave me, as it has proven my foundation for my studies in undergraduate and postgraduate degrees."
